Time to Cheer

Games #1 is WSC vs. Wetas at 10:00 AM. Game #2 is Hoseheads vs. Ducks at 11:30AM. Game #3 is Darkness vs. Chiefs at 1:00pm. The championship Game between the Winners of Game #1 and Game #2 is at 3:00 PM.

Everyone should know that we are officially asking every team to refrain
from having "call-up" players for the tournament because every team will be
missing a few players due to the holiday weekend. Judging from the
information that we have, most teams will be down to 10-12 players at best.
If a player is not on your roster, then he cannot play in the tournament. We
want to avoid any controversy and or bad feelings etc as they will make the
party less festive.

Speaking of the Party, we will have two kegs, 200 wings, 30lbs of sausage,
hot-dogs, hamburgers, and tomato pies. Sounds good. Remember, the beer cup
and tee-shirt (see attached picture) is $10. All are welcome. Its all about
the party.

Hoseheads Stop Chiefs

McCALLUM STREET - The Hoseheads continued their winning ways with a 6-3 victory over the Chiefs. A one-sided affair for the first two periods, the hosers gave the Chiefs' defense quite the early-week workout. As for the fourth period, it went to the Chiefs by default ... seeing as they are all old enough to consume alcoholic beverages.

Looking forward to Saturday, and eager to see how it all shakes out.

Hockey Bob reports: Darkness lost 8-6, the final goal was an empty netter, It was garbage goal heaven. Heron played a good game and had a couple of sweet goals Carter had three nice ones all the rest were trash it was 2-2 in the first four minutes.

Wettas Win, Wet Whistle From Wheelbarrow

Bernie gets major against minor
The Wetas came out strong against the Hoseheads, jumping out to a 4-0 lead relying equally on a strong forecheck and backcheck.
The Hoseheads were able to close the gap to 5-3 with less than seven to play in the third but the Wetas locked down the lead at that point.
The Hoseheads number 40, who is twelve years younger than Kratzer's shoulder pads, got into it with Bernie with nine to play and both players were ejected for fighting. WSL officials are expecting a note from #40's mom, who was in attendance.
The final was 6-3 and the Wetas are officially out of the basement.

Tonight features two excellent matchups as Darkness II faces the Ducks and the Chiefs take on WSC in what's sure to be a raucous environ.

Wetas Explode

Four little, five little ... way too little indians.
Short-benched, the Chiefs got run off the reservation, 6-1. Coulda been 10, but Axel held up.
Wetas exploded in the third. I think Phil had the scalp-trick.

Attention All Penguins, Rams, Murphy's, Yards & Friends!

We have now reached the point where we are turning people away for the Spring League. As a courtesy, we are currently holding spots for all of you until we hear from you that you will not be playing. If you are not playing, let us know ASAP so we can fill your slot with a paying player. If you do want to play, get the payment and registration out to us by Thursday. Come Saturday, we will be accepting registrations and payments in your slots and you will not be able to play. It is a good problem to have but a problem nonetheless.

Team name for spring league?

Bernie was watching this insect on Animal Planet last night, and couldn't help but think it could be a team name for the Wissahickon Spring League. It's the Mountain Rock Weta. "Make your poon poon weta, weta." Besides the obvious Jamaican rap tie in, the Weta have developed special proteins in their haemolymph (the insect equivalent of blood) which prevent ice from forming in their cells. This enables them to survive at temperatures down to –10°C, even when 82% of their body water has frozen. So they can thaw out after being frozen in ice for four months. Sounds like a hockey player to me.

Wissahickon Spring League

Wissahickon Spring League will start the week of Monday March 27th. We are going to do a draft among the guys we know (Penguins, Rams & Friends). Hopefully we can get three or four teams out of our group. We are then hoping that WSC suits up a team and maybe another mens league team (Stealth?). A six team league would be great. We will have ice on Tuesday nights again, with the added possibility of Mondays or Sunday nights. I will also run a skate on Thursday nights. (8:45 or 9:00 start). The cost will basically be around $170-$180 for the nine week league including the tournament on Memorial day weekend. Spread the word, we will need players.

WSC Spring League Tournament/Party

• Game #1- Darkness vs. Rams at 11:00 AM.
• Goalie Competition Shootout- at 12:30 PM.
• Game #2- St. Joe’s vs. Penguins at 12:45 PM.
• Food and Drink available.
• $5 donation covers beer and food for registered players.
• $20 covers ice time, beer, and food for non-registered players.
• Special guest referee Ian Walsh will drop the ceremonial first puck, as well as deliver the ceremonial first slash, crosscheck and elbow.
• Bill Melissen and Ian have agreed to recreate their now classic 1 punch fight at center ice for everyone’s enjoyment.
• It promises to be a day that will live in infamy for at least the duration of the memorial day weekend.

If everyone can bring some sort of side dishes, or chips, dip, desserts, napkins, paper plates, cups, whatever it would be appreciated. I will try to get a better idea of how many people will be there and let people know.

Wissahickon Spring League Starts Tuesday

Game One is this Tuesday, 7:15 at Wissahickon. We're scheduled to shed light on the Darkness.

Bring checks for $100 made out to Wissahickon Skating Club. And be sure to bring white and dark jerseys, just in case.
