Quick Synopsis of the Tournament

Look for more detail reports tomorrow afternoon after I get into town.
Game 1: Lagerheads 2, Minnesota Boys 1
Game 2: Lagerheads 1, Detroit Boys 2
Too much drinking fogs Lagerhead scoring. For those who were in Montreal last year, we repeated our early Saturday letdown game.
Game 3: Lagerheads 2, San Diego 3
The San Diego team outscored their opponents in the other three games by a combined 19-1. Lagerheads were all tied up with a minute to play, but a tie did them no good so they had to pull the goalie.
Bronze Medal Game: Lagerheads 5, Minnesota Boys 3
Lagerheads were determined to come home with some hardware and as it was noted, the team with the least hungover goaltender would have the advantage.

Great time was had by all, details about the black hookers to follow....

Stick Bag Controversy

CHICAGO - Stick bag creates controversy at Philadelphia International Airport. Lagerhead Defenseman Al Donato tried to pull a fast one on Airport security, checking three bags. The protests that a stick bag shouldn't count because it's really really gay didn't sway the Federales and Aldo was forced to dump his hockey sticks with his wife. So look for Aldo to be sporting some new lumber as the tournament commences tomorrow. Perhaps he can get some of Jagr's illegal ones.
Also of note, there's a rumor that the San Diego team is comprised of really good Eastern Europeans.

Off to Chicago, entries will be sporadic

Well as we get set to embark on what we hope will be the most successful Lagerheads tournament to date, there will be plenty of questions in search of answers. Who will be the MVP? How many times will Denny fall down at faceoffs? Will we all make it back? Will we all make it there? Can guys from San Diego play hockey? These are just some of the questions. Stay tuned to Philadelphiarams.com for the answers.... Who didn't pay?

Thursday Night in Chicago

luvabull.jpgSeveral Lagerheads are going to the Blackhawks game, I'm going to be meeting up with a couple of friends of mine who now work and live in Chicago. They recommend going to a couple places in the Lincoln Park section. In fact they were willing to do some recon work for me last Thursday. Here's their report:

"McGee's and Duffy's. Hot sluts all over.
McGee's has $1 bottles Thursday and Duffy's has a Machine bartender."
It should be noted my friends work for the Chicago Machine lacrosse team. So knowing the bartender is a very good thing. As long as drinking for cheap and being introduced to hot girls is a good thing, and last time I checked, it was. One of the waitresses they met last week used to be a Luvabull. So dance, dance!

St. Patrick's Day Parade

chi_river_green.jpg
Hey Lagerheads, looks like we'll be in Chicago for their big Saint Patrick's Day parade. And even before the parade, at 10:45 Saturady morning the Chicago River will be dyed green. Then the parade kicks off at noon where you'll get to see Kelly Green (real name), the St. Patrick's Day Parade Queen.
Should make getting to the rink a little challenging, but hey, drunk Irish girls!

Below are two very important forms. THEY ARE DUE TO ME BY THURSDAY JAN 5TH!.

  • One is your payment form. Print it. Fill it out. Send it back. Now

  • The other is a waiver form. Print it. Fill it out. Send it back. Now.

Either scan and email back or fax them to me (215-629-2897). Please pay by credit card if possible. It’s easiest for all. If you want to sign it and call me with your CC numbers so they are not out in the open, I’ll do that. The payment will be billed in two installments of $192 to your card.
If you must pay by check or money order, make those out to CANAM HOCKEY for $192. I’ll need another check pronto for the second payment. In the memo, put Lagerheads Team 159.
You can also bring them to one of the skates this weekend at Wissahickon (Saturday at 4, Sunday at Noon).

A Letter from Dean

chi_skyline.jpg
Here's the scoop. The vote goes to Chicago. One b/c it was the vote literally, and two, I want to be able to go to Toronto next year. I'm still going to organize the trip since I have a system down with Can/Am and know what paperwork is due when etc. If you know you cannot make it, let me know, too. that way we can get the word out for more guys.
Dates:
March 9 to 12, 2006. (Thursday the 9th is a travel day, first game on the 10th)
Fees:
$50 team fee - check/cash to me by December 1st. this covers the team deposit I have to make with Can/Am plus any jerseys and ice time. I imagine since we have jerseys (for the most part) that you will get some of this back.
$385 (double) or $330 (triple) to cover your hotel, hockey and dinner voucher to cool restaurant. This can be paid by credit card, check, or money order. I'll need the first half by Jan 1 and the second by Feb 1.Iit is most convenient for me and you if you pay by credit card directly to Can/Am. They will take your payment in two parts, too.
$??? Travel costs. Hockey Bob has found round trip airfare for $165 i think. You all will need to organize travel on your own.
Also:
Blackhawks play Thursday the 9th vs. Colorado and Sunday the 12th vs. Detroit. You can get room discount on extra night if you want to stay for the red wings game. You will need to organize this on your own, too.

Tourney details ....
  • Tournament entry fee with 3-4 games guaranteed.
  • Age Groupings and Divisions: 21+, 30+, 35+.
  • Two nights accommodations at the Marriott Chicago, awesome rooms plus a health club with workout room, pool, sauna and steamroom.
  • Dinner and Cocktails on one Tournament evening of your choice at superb Chicago Restaurants such as Hooters, Heaven on Seven, and Magnum's Prime Steakhouse.
  • Games played at the newest and finest downtown facility, Johnny's Ice House, just two miles from the hotel.
  • Complimentary post-game beverage for all team members.
  • Championship Olympic Gold-Silver-Bronze medals for team members.
  • Gold Medal Team Plaque.
  • Player souvenir and Team Rep Gift.
  • Register 20 people and the 21st comes free!
  • Plus, the details and professionalism that make CAN/AM Tournaments special.
Post questions in comments below, and I'll answer for everybody there, too.

The Lagerheads jumped out to a commanding 5-2 lead in the second period only to find new ways to beat themselves as the Falcons scored four straight (three on the power play), the winner with just 3 seconds to play and the Lagerheads fell to 0-7 lifetime in tournament play.
The Lags will try and do something they've never done before, win, Saturday at 1:30 PM versus the Renegades.

Lagerheads look to corporate naming for funds

lagercard_small.jpgPHILADELPHIA — Catchy nicknames for powerful hockey lines, such as the French Connection, the Production Line, the Legion of Doom, or the GAG Line, have almost gone the way of helmetless players. But The Philadelphia Lagerheads look to save them from extinction in a new fundraising ploy.

“Corporate naming rights,” says team rep Dean Kline from team headquarters with a puff of cigar smoke surrounding him. “That’s how we’re going to keep this franchise profitable.”

Outlined in a 4,000-word proposal to league officials, The Lagerheads plan to market individual players’ naming rights to corporations. In addition, and for a higher fee, corporations can buy naming rights to the line combinations. Kline added: “It works like this. We sell Bernie Gillespie’s name to Wawa. So when he scores, it’s announced as: ‘Goal by number 25 Wawa’s Bernie Gillespie. Assisted by ‘Tastykake Billy Mellisen and Valley Forge Brewing Brian Jones’”

And what about line combinations? Kline says, “Say we have Bernie, Billy, and Brian on a line. All their names start with a B. That’s got a real gay sound to it. So we sell the lines’ name to the biggest gay bar in Montreal. It’s announced as “Queerbaits Killer B’s score again.” Next thing you know, we got enough money for a charter flight.”

Montreal Tournament Skinny

quebec_canada_flag.jpgTournament runs the weekend of April 21-24. Travel Thursday, be home Sunday evening.

What you need to do to secure a spot

$50 Player deposit holds your spot (due 12/15/04) – I have to put $500 up front on a credit card to secure our spot with CAN/AM. Once everyone is signed up, that deposit gets washed out. What I’ll do is hold this money, and when we’re secure, I’ll transfer this money to the jersey or travel fund. That way I won’t be laying out cash for everyone every time we need something. If the team doesn’t come together, everyone will get their money back depending on how much I lose by fronting the team. I want to do it this way b/c I got hosed last year a little. Any questions, please ask. BRING THIS WITH YOU TO THE RAMS/PENS GAME AT WINTERSPORT 12/14 or the next RAMS/BANDITS! Cash or check made to Dean Kline.

$345 Hockey, Hotel, Food (1/2 due in late January, ½ due in late february)

  • 4 days, 3 nights hotel (double, save $25 with triple, also discount if you opt for not getting food)
  • 3 games plus championship
  • All games at gorgeous 4 Glace in Pierrefonds
  • Gear stored at the rink (out of sight, out of smell)
  • FREE shuttle from hotel to rink (bonus!)
  • Game video shown at rink with a FREE beer
  • One complimentary night out at top Montreal Restaurant
  • Two meals a day
  • Shootout/relay races
  • Player souvenir
$250 Transportation (this is optional. Transportation is up to you. I’m looking into a tour bus or group flights. Other options are renting vans or driving on your own. I like the bus idea … the more people that come the cheaper it is).

All you'll need at tournament time is beer money! I said .. All you'll need come tournament time is beer money!

So start saving your Loonies

Aldo’s so pumped he hasn’t slept since lake placid, and Jones was the first to sign up. What are you waiting for!

Questions? Ask.
