Downie Gets 20
NHL Hands Downie 20 Game Suspension
Colin Campbell, the NHL's executive vice-president and director of hockey operations, has suspended Downie for 20 games for his vicious hit on Ottawa Senators forward Dean McAmmond in Thursday's exhibition game.
The 20 games is the fifth longest suspension handed down by the league. New York Islanders' Chris Simon holds the longest at 25 games for his two-handed stick attack to the face of Ryan Hollweg of the New York Rangers last season.

20 games for a charge, 25 games for a crosscheck to the face of opponent, and 23 games for a baseball bat swing to a player's head. Good job Colin Campbell and Gary Bettman. I would like to see how severe the suspension would have been if Cindy Crosby put that kind of hit on someone.

5 minutes and $20. (Time already served and Bettman will spot the twenty)

i guess that means this hit was 6.667 times worse than janssen's hit on kaberle last year?

Janssen's hit looked good to me!

WSL would suspend Downie 3 games for excessive backchecking.

What a joke. Suspensions based on injury are a joke. He deserved 2-5 games based on the hit, i guess the other 15+ games are because of the injury caused. I have seen that exact hit hundreds of times and half the time there is not even a penalty called.
Going to be a long year of suspensions if this is the example. Is an elbow going to be a 10 game suspension now? Charging 5 games? Who else thinks that Downie got more games than he would have got in the OHL?
