Why?

Flyers ink head coach Stevens to two-year contract

A month after elevating John Stevens to the head coaching job, the Philadelphia Flyers gave him a two-year contract on Monday.
Stevens, who replaced the fired Ken Hitchcock, went 4-7-1 in his first 12 games.
"This stabilizes the situation in terms of his leadership of the hockey team," general manager Paul Holmgren said. "We are looking forward from this point on as we march ahead."

Remember what happened shortly after old Hitchy attained his extension... Canned!

wasn't hitch's fault. they have a minor-league team. so why not a minor-league coach. in 5 to 6 years, it could get them to the conference finals. then we can all just go mad over how awesome they are. and then, the redwings can blast the flyers in 4 games. no, wait. that's in the past. in 5 to 6 years, we'll still be losing to the sabres.
