Isles' Satan celebrates birth of son, then scores shootout goal
Miroslav Satan has a great story to tell his new baby boy. Just hours after seeing his first child born in Buffalo, the New York Islanders' forward hopped a flight and scored the first goal in the shootout in a 3-2 victory over visiting New Jersey last night.
NHL teams quiet as trade deadline approaches
There is a silence around the NHL these days, an uncharacteristic calm not normally associated with the last week before the trade deadline.
Usually, there already is significant player movement at this time of the year. There are too many rumors with which to keep track. Bags get packed and players move around while contenders become buyers and non-contenders start thinking about next year.
But as of Thursday afternoon, with the deadline one week away, there had been only two trades since the Olympic break ended and the NHL resumed business on Tuesday.
Knee injury to keep Nolan out for rest of season
Owen Nolan has ruled out returning to NHL this season because of a right knee injury.
