World Juniors Head to Medal Round

Russia beats Czechs to earn bye to semis
Evgeni Malkin scored his fourth goal of the tournament and set up two others as Russia claimed top spot in Group B standings with a 7-2 victory over the Czech Republic in 2006 world junior hockey championship round-robin play Saturday night.
With the win, Russia (4-0-0) gets a bye into the semifinals. The Czech Republic (2-2-0) finishes third in Group B and will face the second-place team in Group A in quarter-final action on Monday.
Elbow won't keep Canuck out of action. Brent Sutter had a short but revealing answer yesterday when he was asked about the status of Flyers draft pick Steve Downie for a world junior semi-final tomorrow night. "He's fine,"Sutter said. "He's Steve Downie."
