Pens look to sign Number Two Pick
The Pittsburgh Penguins will know long before the start of training camp in September if 2004 first-round draft pick Evgeni Malkin will join an ever-growing lineup of scorers that will soon include Sidney Crosby.
Penguins general manager Craig Patrick has already talked to one of Malkin's agents, Pat Brisson, about signing the 18-year-old center for the 2005-06 season. Brisson also represents Crosby, which could be a plus for the Penguins.
Reaching out to fans, Flyers slice ticket prices
The Flyers - and all NHL teams - realize they have to win back their fans after a lockout wiped out the 2004-05 season. One of the best ways to reach fans' hearts is through their wallet. Yesterday, the Flyers started that process, announcing across-the-board discounts on single-game and season tickets during a news conference at the Wachovia Center.
Bertuzzi to remain out 10-20 more games
The Vancouver Province reported Friday that Bertuzzi indefinite suspension will continue for an additional 10-20 games once the league gets back on the ice. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman is expected to make that announcement next week, according to the Province's sources.
LeClair, Amonte are First salary-cap victims
General manager Bob Clarke, an old-school hockey person, isn't wasting any time leading the Flyers into the NHL's new salary-cap era.

To his right are NHL Hall of Famer Cam Neely (most HBO viewers will, of course, remember Cam for his role as "Sea Bass" in "Dumb and Dumber"), and former NHL referee Paul Stewart, the tell-it-like-it-is, old-time hockey advocate.
