Mika Hannula’s hat trick helped Olympic champion Sweden beat the United States 6-0 Wednesday in the quarterfinals at the World Ice Hockey Championship.
Sweden goalie Johan Holmqvist had 18 saves, earning his first shutout in five games in the tournament.

Canada into world hockey semis

Patrice Bergeron, Sidney Crosby and Jeff Carter scored in a 1:37 span in the third period to give Team Canada a 4-1 victory over Slovakia in the quarter-finals of the 2006 world hockey championship Wednesday in Riga, Latvia.
Canada advances to play defending Olympic champion Sweden in the semifinals Saturday.
