This fourth Battle of the Hudson is only 60 minutes old, yet desperation already stalks and fuels the Rangers tonight. The streaking Devils will be seeking a victory tonight that has always brought them series triumph.
The Rangers have little choice but to try to return Jaromir Jagr into action despite his left arm injury, probably a shoulder dislocation, suffered in Game 1. The twists and turns have all gone against the New Yorkers already. The Devils are operating on the assumption Jagr will shrug off his injury and suit up for the Blueshirts at the Meadowlands. The Rangers are already considering dumping folk hero Henrik Lundqvist in favor of 2002 Devils-killer Kevin Weekes on goal. While the Devils will be without Colin White (groin), the focus is on Jagr, who left Saturday’s 6-1 Devils triumph in the third period after an innocuous reach toward Scott Gomez. “Jaromir is like a goalie, almost half the team,” Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis said. “But when you walk into a locker room, you don’t think about who’s not there. You think about who’s there.”
The New York Rangers announced that an MRI today revealed that Jason Ward suffered an isolated MCL sprain and will not return for the series.
The Devils are readying themselves for a Rangers squad that may or may not feature star Jaromir Jagr.
