My New Favorite Beer

tripel_karmeliet.jpgI tried Tripel Karmeliet for the first time last night at Grace Tavern. It was instantly my new favorite beer. It was sweet without being syrupy and had a light bubbly essence that could be compared to a champagne. Here’s a professional’s description:

Tripel Karmeliet is a deliciously sweet tripel, a multiple grain beer with great finesse and complexity. The beer is golden in color and has a huge creamy head. Wheat, barley and oats are all used as malts to create both a light crispness and creamy sweetness, while the brewery’s house yeast provides a vanilla and banana character. One of the best most orginal Belgian speciality beers, Tripel Karmeliet has won gold medals at the World Beer Cup of the American Association of Brewers and at the World Beer Championship in Chicago. 8% ABV

I’ll just call it delicious. Also available at Eulogy at 2nd & Chestnut, Fergies and I’d bet Monk’s too.
