Sundin out 4-6 weeks with fracture

One day after watching captain Mats Sundin roll around in pain after being hit in the face by a puck, his Maple Leafs teammates were still trying to erase the gruesome image from their minds. The Maple Leafs learned Thursday that Sundin had suffered a broken orbital bone in his left eye socket in the season-opening 3-2 shootout loss to Ottawa. The Toronto star will out of the lineup for at least four to six weeks.

NHL off to record start

The NHL returned last night with all 30 teams playing, which led to a record one day attendance….
Over 275,000 fans attended games, with an average crowd of over 18,000 and arenas at 98% capacity, previous record attendance was 260,000 fans.


Patrick decides to lace up skates again, in Germany

Now here’s an atypical hockey evolution: from sweater, to coach’s whistle, to lederhosen.
James Patrick, three weeks after he retired and was named to the Buffalo Sabres coaching staff, has left the team. Now the former defenseman is an active defenseman once again, opting to play in Germany.
