In the end the score was close but the play was more like back to back blowouts. The Rams were flying from the opening faceoff, buoyed by their new jerseys, as the Goat and his brother scored three times and the Rams jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. But then a crosscheck of Brian Jones by Bernie “Tim McCracken” Gillespie woke up Jones and his Penguin mates. Jones was certain it had to be Thor laying the lumber, Jones stated “once I saw it was that F*cking f*ckity F*ck Bernie, I had to get serious.” The Pens did just that going on a third period scoring binge that saw the Rams lead evaporate. Jones led the comeback with three goals including the game winner.
The news wasn’t all bad for the Rams who were dressed to impress with their new maroon uniforms, and it looks like Raz is ready to press Dowell for the goaltending duties. Veteran Rams defenseman Art Etchells noted “it was unlikely we (the Rams) would have put in five goals in front of Kevin. That just never happens.” Elsewhere in the lineup newcomer Chris Golin fit in well, and part-timer Snappy tallied on a smart wrister in the second period.
The Rams look to build on the positives of this pre-season tuneup and as Gillespie said “this year, we make the playoffs. We can play with any team in this league.”
